Meet Natasha Peiskar
Hi everyone! My name is Natasha Peiskar and I was born and raised in Smithers, BC, but have called Calgary, AB home for 4 years now. In 2013, I was attending Simon Fraser University to complete my chemistry degree. I joined the home brewing and beer appreciation club and a local hops distributor approached us to take part in an inaugural university home brewing competition. Our club was the underdog, but we won three of five categories, tied a fourth and captured the best overall club prize. The first beer myself and a friend ever brewed won best-in-show and, as part of the prize, got to have our recipe scaled up for commercial production.
Since that day I have held many positions in and strived to be a part of the fabric that makes up the craft beer community. Last year I took the jump from restaurants to the production side and started as a Cellarman with Bomber Brewing, East Vancouver, before returning home to Calgary to join the team as a Brewer at Tool Shed Brewing Company. On the side I co-founded and was three-term president of CAMRA Alberta and champion Women’s Collaboration Brew Day every year in Calgary; which grew from a home brew demo to multiple participating breweries that contribute to a bursary for women attending the Olds College Brewmaster and Brewery Operations program.
Through this mentorship I hope to bridge the gap between growers, maltsters and craft brewers. With the explosion of craft breweries in Alberta, and ultimately, the world so grows the demand for Alberta barley. Looking back a year from now I hope to feel proud to have been on the ground floor growing communication between the invested agricultural parties and their end users, craft brewers!
