My name is Steven Vincett. My upbringing was near Galahad, which is located in East Central Alberta. This is in Flagstaff County, which has dryland grain farms as well as cow-calf producers. The opportunity to start farming happened to me in 2011. I'm engaged in grain farming full time now with the help of my family and community.
Working in this field was not a direct route for me. After attending Olds College and the University of Lethbridge, I went to work at a land surveying company. I majored in the geography department and have training in GIS. A position became available at Flagstaff County, which allowed me to move closer to my agricultural roots.
Expanding my understanding of agriculture is important to me. I am thrilled to be a participant in the Advancing Ag program. Developing skills for running a farm business is my main objective of the program. I see an ideal farm as one that is sustainable, innovative and energizing. It is my hope that the mentorship will be part of my journey towards this vision. In addition, I am looking forward to meeting and spending time with new people who are passionate about agriculture.
I have a St Bernard dog, who makes life more interesting on the farm. In winter months I enjoy skiing and snowboarding at the Valley ski club. Travelling to new places is another personal interest. I have visited Europe, Asia, and nine of the Canadian provinces.
