Through the Advancing Ag program, I was given the opportunity to attend Farm Credit Canada’s (FCC) virtual young farmer’s summit. Although it was virtual, it was a very unique experience, and I was able to learn lots as well as listen to some amazing speakers. One of my favorite speakers at the conference was Dr. Jody Carrington. Dr. Carrington is a well-known Psychologist in Olds, Alberta. Prior to the conference I followed her on many social media platforms including Facebook and Instagram. I have watched her videos for a while, and I have always been a huge fan of hers. Once I found out she was speaking at the conference I knew I had to go and, thanks to the Advancing Ag program, I was able to reach out to my mentor and figure out how to register for the conference. Along with Dr. Jody Carrington there were several other speakers who I enjoyed listening to. One of the big topics that was covered during the conference was the idea of succession. Since all people attending the conference were under the age of 40, the idea of succession is something many people in attendance are going through, have gone through or will go through. Some of the speakers were able to provide some insight and tips for a smoother succession period and to ensure that all parties involved are benefiting. Over all the conference was very informative and, although it was virtual, was still able to provide me with lots of insight and information that will become beneficial in the near future.
